J Is For

J is for John Prine - got THAT inspiration after seeing him on Letterman Wednesday night - with Jason Wilbur and Jim James/Yim Yames

John is so when of those singer/songwriter talents that are underappreciated/recognised - thankfully my friend S turned me onto John - although I had heard of him I can't say I had really heard him - and I was soon hooked -

I've pulled more than a few of his tunes from YouTube - some are of him - some are him with Iris Dement - I really wanted to find a version of "Angel From Montgomery" with Bonnie Raitt but couldn't find any I cared to use - many people think it is her song but it really is John's - the last one I'll share is one I so lucked into as I tried to find "Some Humans Ain't Human" - as you watch it, you'll see why I was smiling as I watched it! The last one I've included reminds me I need to do a 'B Is For' for Blaze Foley! - and listen to my Lucinda Williams 'Drunken Angel' track!

My wine of the evening was my last bottle from my Peachy Canyon wine club - although mine was the 2006 - I was in their club for several years until the PA Wine Nazis loophole snagged me/them - I really did enjoy the wines I got from them - plus, I had hoped to be able to enjoy some of the wines a MySpace aquaintance would have been part of - Linda joined Peachy Canyon as an assistant winemaker a few years ago - oh well, for a reason as I say - and yes, tonight's wine is quite tasty!

Cheers to all on this holiday weekend here - please be safe and give thought to the reason for the holiday - it isn't just to 'start summer'

W Is For

Wine - Whiskeytown - Wishes - Weekend

The most recent wines consumed were two of my Wine Access Monthly selections - a nice French offering
And a nice Spanish bottle - which reminded me once again that I really need to drink more Spanish wines - especially Monastrell/Mourvedre -
Before sharing some Whiskeytown songs, I'll open with a Ryan Adams solo one then move onto some Whiskeytown work -

Wishes to Bob Dylan on his birthday on Monday - thanks for inspiring me to get 'tangled up in blue' - and for those of you that don't know all the songs Bob wrote, check out this list - quite an impressive songbook he created -

Weekend - it wasn't bad for a change -

F Is For

F is for Friday - and some assorted songs that just spoke to me during the past few days - no theme - no reason - no method to my madness - just ones I wanted to see and hear - I really wanted another Lucinda Williams "Right In Time" but I didn't like the versions I had access to at this time - I hope all of you have a pleasant weekend with some F IS FOR FUN!

Cheers!

M Is For

Mixed Bag...

D is for Dio and Death... -I saw him several times in concert - once with Black Sabbath and once as Dio - his presence was something else - he truly looked to be an elf up there on stage but the voice was far from that -

O is for The O'Jays - I can't help but think their "Back stabbers" song sums up SO much - enough said with that one

I'm still working on writing again - had some inspiration whilst in the shower on Tuesday - I'm trying to bring it to fruitition - time will tell -and with THAT:

A is for Asia....

And Only Time Will Tell 'bout the election results - I didn't do too well with my picks but I hope November's results will be better!

L Is For

L is for...

Legend...

Loss...

Lena Horne...

As a child of the babyboomer generation - circa 1959 - it just blows my mind to realise the discrimination this tremendous talent faced - hearing/seeing the various reports following her death just has me shaking my head - yet I know it still happens today - in a different kind of way - yet still does - it is just wrong the colour matters so freakin' much -

Anyway, here a some examples of Lena's work -what a talent - and such a person that made a difference - there is no doubt 'we' will know she's been 'here' -

Cheers to a legend!
